The Whispering Bamboo: Hand-painted Bird & Grove Qinghua Cup

Handcrafted Jingdezhen Porcelain | Master “Jushan Yilian” (Pian Yu Tang) | 75ml

In the lexicon of Zen aesthetics, a single bird within a bamboo grove is a universal symbol of freedom and the search for an inner sanctuary. At ZENTAOEAST, we present The Whispering Bamboo—a 75ml tea vessel that captures the ethereal spirit of a Song Dynasty landscape. It is an “Object of Introspection,” designed to bring the rhythmic silence of the forest to your tea table.

The Silhouette: Song-style Flared Rim

This vessel is designed in the classic Piě Kǒu (Flared Rim) style.

  • The Form: With a wide opening and a gracefully tapering body, the silhouette is lean and agile. The flared rim is specifically engineered to fit the lips with weightless comfort while allowing the tea’s aromatics to rise and expand.

  • Tactile Purity: The porcelain is “Eggshell-thin,” vitrified at high temperatures until it achieves a translucent clarity. Held against the light, it glows with a soft, misty radiance, mirroring the moist luster of ancestral jade.

The Art of the Brush: Jushan Yilian

The visual narrative is the spiritual labor of the artist Jùshān Yīlián (琚山一莲), a master painter at the Pian Yu Tang Studio in Jingdezhen.

  • The Motif: Using the traditional Underglaze Blue (Qīnghuā) technique, the artist has rendered a “Bird in a Bamboo Forest.” The brushwork is experienced and understated—the bamboo leaves appear to sway in a phantom wind, while the bird is captured in a moment of alert stillness.

  • Ink-Wash Nuance: The cobalt blue is applied with a “Water-wash” sensitivity, creating layers of depth that mimic traditional ink paintings on silk. It is a scene that reveals more detail the longer you contemplate it.

The Identity: A Signature of Integrity

True to the tradition of independent master studios, the base of the cup carries the hand-painted mark of the artist: “Jùshān Yīlián” (琚山一莲). This is our guarantee of “True Heart” curation—a promise that your vessel is an original work of art, not a mass-produced replica.

Curator’s Verdict

“There is a rare ‘Coolness’ to this cup. I chose the work of Jushan Yilian for ZENTAOEAST because her brush has a ‘Scholarly Temperament’—it is precise but never crowded. At 75ml, it is the perfect size for an afternoon session of high-mountain Oolong or The Sovereign Bloom. It is a ‘Lifelong Companion’ that invites you to be like the bird in the painting: present, quiet, and profoundly free.”

— Richard Zhang, Founding Curator
