The Verse Altar: “Ding Feng Bo” Calligraphy Tea Pedestal
Hand-written Su Dongpo Poetry | Dry-Brew Teapot Stand | Guanshan Jianwu Studio
In the “Architecture of Silence,” every ritual needs a stage. The Verse Altar (Dìng Fēng Bō Hùchéng) is a 16.2cm porcelain pedestal designed as a dignified platform for your Gaiwan or Teapot. Unlike common drainage trays, this is a Dry Teapot Stand, intended for a minimalist and clean ritual where the focus remains on the meeting of the vessel and the word.
The Inner Horizon: Su Dongpo’s Echo
The soul of this piece is the Hand-written Underglaze Blue Calligraphy that encircles the inner perimeter of the stand.
The Inscription: In a continuous ring of scholarly ink, the artisan has inscribed the complete verses of Su Dongpo’s masterpiece, Ding Feng Bo.
Visual Pacing: By placing the text on the interior rim, the words act as a spiritual barrier, surrounding your teapot with the poet’s philosophy of resilience. When a vessel is placed in the center, the calligraphy forms a “Gilded Ring of Wisdom” that remains visible to the practitioner.
The Signature: On the base, it carries the official studio mark: “Guān Shān Jiàn Wù” (观山见物 – Seeing the Mountain, Perceiving the Object).
Material Purity: The Jade-White Standard
The vessel is crafted from high-fired Jingdezhen Kaolin clay, featuring a 100% hand-thrown embryo.
Tactile Stillness: The “White Jade” glaze is moist and non-reflective, possessing the “fatty” luster of fine suet jade. It provides a cool, clean backdrop that forces the eye to focus on the blue ink and the silhouette of your brewing vessel.
Stationary Dignity: With a diameter of 16.2cm, it provides a stable and expansive sanctuary. It is designed to remain dry, a stage where you place your vessel with intention, honoring the “Qi” of the session without the distraction of flowing water.
The Curator’s Standard
Every ZENTAOEAST offering is selected for its ability to anchor a room. This pedestal is an essential tool for the “Dry Brew” (Gān Pào) method—a practice of extreme restraint and focus. It transforms your tea table into a scholarly landscape, where the weight of the porcelain and the vibration of the verse become one.
Curator’s Verdict
“I am fascinated by the ‘Stance’ of this pedestal. It doesn’t try to be a utility tray; it is an altar for the tea. I chose this specific design because the calligraphy is focused on the inner ring—it feels more private, more introspective. It is the perfect stage for our Ancestral Offerings, reminding us that even in a ‘dry’ world, the heart can be as vast as a lotus pond.”
