At ZENTAOEAST, we present this handcrafted Hucheng (Teapot Stand)—a masterwork that captures the “Architecture of Silence” through one of the most difficult techniques in ceramic history.

The Motif: A Covenant of Integrity

The surface of this 16.2cm stand serves as a canvas for a classic scholarly narrative:

• The Pine: Gnarled and vigorous, symbolizing a soul that remains evergreen amidst the harshest storms.

• The Bamboo: Graceful and hollow, representing the humility and flexibility of the “True Heart.”

• The Plum: Rendered in rare Underglaze Red, the blossoms appear like crimson embers glowing in the snow, symbolizing purity and the herald of spring.

• The Brushwork: Painted by the veteran artists of the Jian Tang Qi Studio, every needle of pine and every joint of bamboo is rendered with a “decisive rhythm,” reflecting decades of silent mastery.

The Alchemy: Qinghua Youlihong (Blue & Red)

To fire underglaze blue (cobalt) and underglaze red (copper) together is to attempt the impossible.

• The High-Stakes Fire: Underglaze red is notoriously volatile, requiring a precise oxygen-reduction atmosphere at 1300°C. A few degrees of difference, and the red vanishes into grey.

• Wood-fired Luster: This vessel is born from a Traditional Wood-fired Kiln. The pine resin and wood ash interact with the mineral glazes to create a surface that is moist, “oily,” and deep—possessing the soul-stirring weight of a 15th-century Imperial treasure.

The Source: Jian Tang Qi & The Fan Jia Jing Legacy

This piece originates from Jian Tang Qi (俭堂器), a discreet studio led by Ms. Huang in the historic Fan Jia Jing district of Jingdezhen.
