The Scholar’s Echo: “Ding Feng Bo” Silver-Clad Bell Cup

Hand-written Full Poetry | Eggshell-Thin Porcelain | 999 Pure Silver Rim | 90ml

In the world of ZENTAOEAST, the most profound stories are those hidden within. The Scholar’s Echo is a 90ml “Bell” cup (Língdāng Bēi) that serves as a private theater for the spirit. It is a masterpiece of micro-artistry, designed for the practitioner who understands that true wisdom is often whispered from the inside out.

The Interior Narrative: A Sea of Ink

Unlike standard cups, the soul of this vessel is found on its inner walls:

  • The Full Inscription: The entire text of Su Dongpo’s legendary poem, Ding Feng Bo, is hand-written in underglaze blue calligraphy across the interior. The brushwork is vigorous, capturing the “Qi” of a scholar who has transcended worldly storm and stress.

  • Translucent Revelation: Crafted as an Eggshell-thin (Bó Tāi) embryo, the porcelain is so delicate that the internal calligraphy is visible through the exterior walls when held to the light. It creates a ghostly, ethereal silhouette of verse that dances with the movement of your hand.

  • The Hidden Seal: As the last drop of tea is finished, the three characters Dìng Fēng Bō (定风波) are revealed at the base—a final anchor for your meditation.

Micro-Artistry: The Landscape on the Foot

In a feat of extraordinary control, the artisan has hand-painted a full-circle literati landscape around the miniature foot-ring of the cup.

  • The World in a Grain: Even in this restricted space, one can see mountains and mist, a visual metaphor for the Zen realization that the entire universe can be found within a single atom. It is a detail reserved for the most observant collector.

Material Harmony: Silver and Jade

  • 999 Pure Silver Cladding: The mouth of the cup is delicately encased in hand-applied 999 Pure Silver. This provides a stable, cooling rim for the lips and adds a layer of antique nobility to the pure white jade-like porcelain.

  • White Jade Glaze: The high-fired Jingdezhen Kaolin yields a “Moist White” luster—non-reflective and exceptionally smooth, reminiscent of ancient mutton-fat jade.

Form: The Resonant Bell

The Bell Silhouette (Língdāng Bēi) is an upright, flared form known for its elegant proportions and its ability to gather the tea’s aroma. At 90ml, it is the definitive “Master Cup,” fitting perfectly in the palm with a balanced, graceful weight.

Curator’s Verdict

“This cup is a ‘Secret Sanctuary.’ I am stunned by the artisan’s patience—to write an entire poem inside a 90ml cup and then paint a landscape on a foot-ring barely wider than a fingernail is an act of pure devotion. I chose this for ZENTAOEAST because it embodies ‘Sublime Subtraction’ on the outside and ‘Infinite Depth’ on the inside. It is the ultimate companion for the scholar who seeks to find peace where the heart is settled.”

— Richard Zhang, Founding Curator

The sanctuary is open to all voices. We invite your reflections on the form, spirit, and heritage of this offering.
