The Pure Heart: Handcrafted “Jade-White” Porcelain Gaiwan
Heirloom Soapstone-Infused Clay | Hanwen Tang Studio (Jingdezhen) | 150ml
In the pursuit of Eastern stillness, white is not the absence of color; it is the presence of purity. The Pure Heart is a 150ml Gaiwan that embodies the peak of Jingdezhen’s white porcelain tradition. Crafted by the celebrated Hanwen Tang Studio, it is a vessel designed to disappear, allowing the true color and spirit of the tea to become the primary protagonist.
The Material: The Secret of “Soapstone”
The soul of this Gaiwan lies in its unique Ancestral Clay Recipe.
The Soapstone Infusion: Master artisans at Hanwen Tang utilize a proprietary blend of kaolin clay and Huá Shí Zǐ (Sliding Stone / Soapstone). This mineral addition increases the vitrification temperature and alters the crystal structure of the porcelain.
Jade-like Texture: Unlike modern industrial porcelain that is often stark and cold, this soapstone-infused body yields a soft, warm, and creamy whiteness. It possesses a tactile “oiliness” that mimics the moist luster of suet jade—a quality the ancients called “Bái Rú Yù” (White as Jade).
Form & Philosophy: The Scholar’s Standard
The silhouette is a masterclass in “Sublime Subtraction”:
The Proportions: Every curve—from the rounded belly of the bowl to the precisely angled lid—has been calibrated for “Hand-friendly” utility. The low center of gravity provides a stable, grounded presence.
Introspective Detail: The lid knob is shaped with a delicate taper, offering a secure grip that remains cool during the pour.
Modern Zen: By discarding all superficial decoration, this Gaiwan forces the observer to focus on the Bone, Glaze, and Form. It is the physical manifestation of the “Architecture of Silence.”
The Studio: Hanwen Tang (翰文堂)
Produced by Hanwen Tang, a Jingdezhen house revered for its deep research into Tang and Song dynasty white glazes. Their work is characterized by its high-fire durability and its ability to age gracefully with the practitioner. On its base, it carries the elegant seal: “Hàn Wén Táng” (翰文堂).
