The Junzi Collection: 6-Piece Noble Scholar Tea Set
Relief-Carved Qingbai Porcelain | Pine & Four Gentlemen Motif | Masterfully Crafted by Xian Yun Ju
At ZENTAOEAST, we believe that the objects on your tea table should reflect the virtues of your inner heart. The Junzi Collection is a 6-piece ritual set that pays homage to the “Noble Scholars” of the East. It is a visual and tactile journey into the spiritual landscape of the ancient literati, designed to elevate your daily practice into a ceremony of integrity and stillness.
The Symbolic Forest: Pine and the Four Gentlemen
In the scholarly tradition, certain plants were revered as mirrors of the human spirit. This set captures their essence through exquisite Yang Ke (Relief Carving):
The Gaiwan (170ml): Adorned with a vigorous Ancient Pine, a symbol of steadfastness and a soul that remains evergreen even in the harshest winters.
The Four Teacups (75ml): Each cup features one of the Four Gentlemen—the resilient Plum Blossom, the humble Orchid, the flexible Bamboo, and the noble Chrysanthemum. Together, they represent the complete cycle of a virtuous life.
Tactile Poetry: The relief carving allows you to feel the texture of the petals and the strength of the pine needles under your fingertips, creating a direct physical connection between the hand and the motif.
The Material: Qingbai “Shadow Blue” Jade
Forged from premium Jingdezhen Kaolin clay, each piece is finished in the celebrated Qingbai Glaze.
Jade-like Luster: Known as “Bluish-white,” this glaze is prized for its moist, translucent, and smooth texture. It possesses a cool brilliance that mimics the depth of fine suet jade, allowing the relief carvings to “glow” as they catch the light.
Acoustic Clarity: High-fired to reach peak vitrification, the porcelain produces a resonant, bell-like tone—a sign of its structural purity.
The Ensemble: Balanced for the Ritual
This set is designed for a shared sanctuary experience, offering a perfect balance of transparency and tradition:
The Heart: A 170ml Gaiwan for controlled brewing.
The Clarity: A 230ml Glass Gongdao Bei (Fair-cup) allows you to admire the “Sovereign Bloom” or “Ancestral Tea” as its color transforms in the light.
The Resonance: Four 75ml Teacups, sized for deep appreciation.
Studio Integrity: Xian Yun Ju (闲云居)
Produced by Xian Yun Ju, a boutique studio in Jingdezhen renowned for its artistic transformation of living spaces. Every piece carries the prestigious dual-language mark on its base: “景德镇制” (Jingdezhen Made) at the center, surrounded by “MADE IN JING DE ZHEN.”
Curator’s Verdict
“The Junzi set is the definition of ‘Scholarly Stillness.’ I am consistently moved by the relief carvings—they remind me of the stone inscriptions on Qiyun Mountain. I chose this set because the combination of the clear glass fair-cup and the jade-like Qingbai porcelain creates a dialogue between the modern and the ancestral. It is a generous, dignified collection for those who wish to brew their tea in the company of the ‘Four Gentlemen’.”
