The Hermit’s Reflection: 6-Piece Wabi-Sabi Solitary Tea Ritual Set
Chiseled Red Pine Table | Hand-thrown “Engobe” Teapot | Hand-painted Poetry Cup
True stillness often requires a deliberate withdrawal—a moment where there is only the leaf, the water, and the self. At ZENTAOEAST, we present The Hermit’s Reflection, a complete solitary tea altar designed for meditation and quietude. Whether placed in a sunlight-dappled studio or a hidden corner of a garden, this set transforms any space into a sanctuary.
The Foundation: Chiseled Red Pine Altar
The ritual begins with the table. This folding tea altar is crafted from Red Pine, finished with Traditional Chinese Plant Lacquer (Urushi).
The Texture: The surface is intentionally sculpted with visible chisel marks (Záo Hén). This is “Rugged Clumsiness” in its most architectural form—it feels as though it was hewn from an ancient bridge.
Dimensional Grace: Measuring 44.5 x 29 x 14.7 cm, it provides a stable, dignified platform that can be folded and moved with ease, allowing your sanctuary to travel with you.
The Vessel: The Side-Handle Kyusu
The 150ml side-handle teapot is an exercise in organic form.
Hand-thrown Vitality: Every teapot is unique, retaining the subtle irregularities of the wheel. The surface is treated with Engobe (Slip) of varying thicknesses, creating a mottled, weathered texture.
The Fire: Fired at 1280°C, the teapot is structurally resonant, designed specifically for a single practitioner to explore the nuanced layers of our Ancestral Tea harvests.
The Poetry: The “Fisherman’s Song” Master Cup
The 70ml master cup is a bridge to the Tang Dynasty.
The Material: Crafted from unpurified Jingdezhen Kaolin, the clay is rich in natural iron. During the 1300°C fire, these minerals surface as tiny black specks and pinholes, giving the porcelain an “Old Soul” (Lǎo Qì) texture.
The Narrative: Hand-painted on the surface is a Mandarin Fish accompanied by the verse of poet Zhang Zhihe: “Before Mount Xisai, egrets fly… through slanting wind and fine rain, there is no need to return.” It is a call to remain in the moment, unhurried and free.
The Anchor: Hand-polished Horn Lid Rest
Measuring 5cm in diameter, the lid rest is carved from Natural Horn, offering a warm, organic contrast to the wood and clay. It carries two inscriptions:
Side A: “In this mountain, hidden by deep clouds.” (只在此山中)
Side B: “Mountains and seas in the heart; no rights or wrongs in tea.” (心中有山海,茶里无是非)
Studio Integrity: Yu & Xiong
Designed and supervised by the visionary Yu & Xiong Studio, this set represents the “Living Path” of the 90s-generation artisans. On the base of the teapot and cup, the character Yú (鱼 – Fish) serves as a seal of freedom and artisanal pride.
Curator’s Verdict
“This is the most intimate set in our collection. I chose the chiseled Red Pine table because it feels like a piece of my homeland’s Huizhou architecture—solid and silent. The 150ml teapot is the perfect size for a morning session of The Sovereign Bloom. It is a sanctuary for the ‘Atomic’ individual, a reminder that being alone is not the same as being lonely. It is ‘Fewer, Finer, and Forever’ personified.”
