The Eternal Bloom: 5-Piece Incised Yingqing Peony Set
Hand-etched “Shadow Blue” Porcelain | Xian Yun Ju Studio | Ancestral Tea Ritual
In the visual vocabulary of the East, the Intertwined Peony (Chán Zhī Mǔdān) is a silent prayer for life’s continuity and flourishing grace. At ZENTAOEAST, we present The Eternal Bloom—a 5-piece sanctuary set that embodies the “Architecture of Silence.” It is a masterpiece of hidden depth, where the artistry lies beneath a perfectly seamless surface.
The Art of Incising: Shadows Captured in Glass
This set utilizes the sophisticated Yīnkè (Incising) technique, a hallmark of Song Dynasty aesthetics.
The Process: The intricate peony motifs are etched directly into the raw clay body. Unlike relief work, these lines are carved into the vessel, creating valleys in the clay.
The Seamless Touch: Once the piece is dressed in Qingbai (Bluish-white) Glaze and fired at 1300°C, a magical transformation occurs. The molten glaze flows into the carved crevices, pooling to create deep, azure shadows. However, the surface of the glaze levels out completely during the fire.
Tactile Purity: The result is a visual illusion. Your eyes perceive a three-dimensional landscape of flowers and vines, but your hands feel only the absolute smoothness of high-fired porcelain. It is a texture as sleek and cool as polished jade, offering no resistance to the touch—only the pure “Temperature of the Hand.”
The Material: Luminous Jade Luster
Forged from premium Jingdezhen Kaolin clay, the porcelain is remarkably dense and resonant.
Yingqing (Shadow Blue): The glaze, known as “Shadow Blue,” is a translucent white that reveals its cerulean soul only where the incised lines allow the glaze to gather.
Acoustic Clarity: When tapped, the pieces produce a clear, bell-like ring—a sign of the structural integrity achieved at 1300°C.
The Ensemble: A Sanctuary for Four
Designed for shared moments of reflection, this set is built for both beauty and balance:
The Teapot (220ml): A dignified silhouette with a classic “Scholar’s Spout” and ergonomic handle, providing a smooth, steady pour.
The Four Cups (70ml): Perfectly proportioned to cradle in the palm, these cups concentrate the fragrance and heat of your Ancestral Tea.
Studio Integrity: Xian Yun Ju (闲云居)
Produced by Xian Yun Ju, a boutique studio in Jingdezhen renowned for its artistic transformation of living spaces. Every piece carries the prestigious dual-language mark on its base: “景德镇制” (Jingdezhen Made) at the center, surrounded by “MADE IN JING DE ZHEN.”
Curator’s Verdict
“I am fascinated by the ‘Invisible Depth’ of this set. Most products try to grab your attention with texture you can feel, but the Eternal Bloom is more humble. It offers a visual feast of peonies, yet remains perfectly smooth to the touch—much like a deep, clear pond. It is the perfect embodiment of ‘Rugged Clumsiness’ refined into a state of total clarity. It is an heirloom that honors the Song Dynasty’s love for the understated.”
