“The soul of a forest in a heavy brew; a Shou Mei so rich it rivals the Peony.”
At ZENTAOEAST, we find that beauty often resides in the robust and the mature. This 2025 Shou Mei comes from the same legendary Naturally Unpruned garden in Hulin, Panxi as our White Peony. Harvested on April 26, 2025, this tea captures the full-bodied energy of the Fuding Dahao trees after they have basked in a full month of spring sun.
A “Peony-Grade” Shou Mei
While officially categorized as Shou Mei due to its harvest date, this tea possesses a surprising abundance of silver buds. In many other markets, the quality of this material would easily be labeled as “White Peony.”
The Best of Both Worlds: You get the delicate floral notes and sweetness of the buds, combined with the profound thickness and mineral depth that only mature leaves from unpruned, arboreal-form trees can provide.
The Terroir & Craft: Panxi’s Wild Spirit

Naturally Unpruned: These 20-year-old trees have escaped the shears of human intervention, allowing their roots to dig deep into the mineral-rich soil of Hulin. This results in a tea soup with exceptional “viscosity” and a cleaner, more resonant “Mountain Charm” (Yùn).
Traditional Sun-Drying: Artisan Mr. Zhou Jing utilizes 100% natural sun-drying. By avoiding high-heat machinery, he preserves the tea’s natural enzymes, allowing it to “breathe” and develop a rich Sun Fragrance (Tàiyáng Wèi).
The Experience: Thick, Bold, and Comforting
The Palate: Compared to the ethereal White Peony, this Shou Mei is noticeably heavier and more substantial. It offers a honeyed sweetness with notes of dried wildflowers and a hint of jujube as it ages.
Winter’s Companion: This tea is a favorite among seasoned collectors. Its robust nature makes it the perfect candidate for “Stove-Boiling” (Wéi Lú Zhǔ Chá). As the leaves simmer over a slow flame in winter, they release a deep, medicinal, and soothing warmth that is the ultimate antidote to the cold.
Curator’s Verdict
“If the White Peony is a poem of the morning, this 2025 Panxi Hulin Shou Mei is a story by the fireplace. I was amazed to see so many silver buds in a Shou Mei harvest—it speaks to the incredible health of Zhou Jing’s unpruned trees. It is thick, sweet, and incredibly satisfying. I highly recommend this for those who love to ‘boil’ their tea in the winter months; it reveals a rich, dark-honey character that is simply soul-warming.”
