Guan Shan Jian Wu: High-Fire Monochrome Aroma Snifter Cup
1300°C High-Temperature Porcelain | Minimalist Pastel Palette | 60ml
“To taste the tea, one must first capture its soul—the fragrance.”
At ZENTAOEAST, we believe that the sensory journey of tea is incomplete without the appreciation of its aroma. This Monochrome Snifter Cup (Wén Xiāng Bēi) is a refined creation from the Guan Shan Jian Wu (观山见物) studio in Jingdezhen. Designed for the connoisseur of high-mountain Oolongs and delicate florals, these cups are a tribute to the quiet beauty of single-color glazes and the functional elegance of the tea ceremony.
The Silhouette: The Messenger of Fragrance
The Snifter Cup is a specialized vessel in Chinese tea culture, characterized by its tall, slender form.
Concentrating the Aroma: The narrow aperture is designed to trap and concentrate the volatile aromatic oils of the tea.
A Perfect Balance: At 60ml, these cups offer the ideal volume for traditional Gongfu sessions, balancing heat retention with aromatic clarity.
The Palette: Soft Pastels of Nature
The Guan Shan Jian Wu studio has curated a trio of colors that reflect the softest hues of the natural world:
Ethereal Purple: A soft lavender hue that evokes the mist on a mountain peak at dusk.
Serene Blue: A pale, dreamy azure reminiscent of a clear spring sky.
Spring Green: A gentle, budding green that carries the freshness of new tea leaves.
Each glaze is “Dan Ya” (淡雅)—elegant and soft—providing a calming visual backdrop that does not distract from the tea itself.
The Alchemy: 1300°C High-Fire Mastery
These cups are fired at an extreme temperature of 1300°C.
Purity and Strength: This high-fire process ensures that the porcelain is fully vitrified, making it non-porous and incredibly durable. The glaze becomes a smooth, glassy shield that is resistant to staining and easy to clean.
Soft Luster: Despite the high firing temperature, the finish remains soft and “moist” to the eye, avoiding the harsh glare of lower-quality industrial ceramics.
Curator’s Verdict
“The Guan Shan Jian Wu Snifter Cups are a masterclass in ‘Sublime Subtraction.’ I am particularly fond of the 1300°C high-fire finish—it gives the porcelain a structural integrity that you can feel. The colors are incredibly soft, like a watercolor painting. For anyone serious about Oolong tea, these are essential tools that turn a simple tasting into a deep, aromatic meditation.”
