Essential Zi Ni “Mu Gu Han Wa” Yixing Teapot
Classic Han Tile Silhouette | Versatile Purple Clay | Reliable Daily Teapot | 135ml
“A grounded, practical form for the daily tea drinker; an honest introduction to Zi Ni clay.”
At ZENTAOEAST, we believe that functional teaware should be accessible without compromising on the authenticity of the material. The Mu Gu Han Wa Teapot from Li Dan Studio is a straightforward, reliable “daily driver.” Crafted from traditional Zi Ni (Purple Clay) in a sturdy antique-inspired form, it offers a solid foundation for those beginning their journey into Yixing teaware.
The Form: The Practical “Han Wa” (汉瓦)
The Han Wa (Han Tile) is a classic silhouette inspired by the ancient roof tiles of the Han Dynasty.
Built for Ease: This shape is prized by practitioners for its wide mouth, which makes it exceptionally easy to load tea leaves and simple to clean after use.
Sturdy & Direct: At 135ml, it provides a stable and efficient brewing experience, offering a smooth, rapid pour that is ideal for a wide variety of tea types.
The Material: Traditional Zi Ni (紫泥)
This teapot is made from Zi Ni (Purple Clay), the most classic and versatile of all Yixing clays.
An All-Rounder: Zi Ni is known for its balanced mineral composition and excellent porosity. It is a “kind” clay that works well with almost any tea—from aged Pu-erh to Roasted Oolongs and Black teas—helping to round off harsh edges and produce a mellow brew.
Daily Seasoning: As a half-handmade (Ban Shou Gong) vessel, it is a practical tool intended for daily use. Over time, the porous Zi Ni will absorb the tea oils, developing a subtle, natural luster that reflects your daily brewing ritual.
The Mark: Mu Yun (暮云)
The base is hand-pressed with the seal script mark “暮云” (Mu Yun), meaning “Sunset Clouds.” This studio mark represents the specific “Mu Gu” (Antique-inspired) series from Li Dan’s workshop, serving as a signature of its origin and artisanal intent.
Curator’s Verdict
“The Mu Gu Han Wa is what I call a ‘teatime workhorse.’ If you are looking for your first Zi Ni pot, this is an excellent, no-nonsense choice. Its wide mouth and stable base make it incredibly user-friendly. It doesn’t have the delicate complexity of a high-master piece, but it has the honesty of real Yixing clay. It’s a teapot meant to be used every day, one that will reliably grow with you as you explore the world of tea.”
