Liu Mei（刘楳）

Liu Mei is a young Jianshui purple pottery artisan whose work is defined by simplicity, restraint, and a deep respect for the natural character of clay. Born in Zhaotong, Yunnan, in 1986, she encountered Jianshui purple pottery through an unexpected turn in life and gradually devoted herself to its creation. Her studio, Hanjintang（翰锦堂）, was founded in 2022 and focuses primarily on the design and making of tea ware. Working between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics, Liu Mei explores form with a quiet and disciplined sensibility—removing unnecessary ornament, using space as a form of expression, and allowing the character of the clay to remain visible. Her work offers a subtle and distinctive interpretation of Jianshui purple pottery, particularly notable for its calm, understated beauty.
