Jiangponi Zisha Clay

Jiangponi Zisha Clay is a distinctive Zisha clay discovered during the Tao Du Road construction project in Yixing during the 1990s. Originating from the area between Huanglong Mountain and Qinglong Mountain, this unique clay is a naturally occurring Zisha mineral blend with abundant sandy particles and distinctive textural qualities.

Compared with finer clays, Jiangponi contains more sand and fewer clay particles, resulting in a rich granular texture, strong breathability and a warm, oily surface character after firing. Its naturally coarse particle structure often creates a unique pear-skin-like appearance, which is highly appreciated by collectors of Yixing Zisha teapots.

Because of its high sand content and relatively hard clay quality, Jiangponi is more challenging to shape during production. However, this difficulty contributes to its distinctive tactile character and artistic value. Through daily use and tea cultivation, Jiangponi teapots are especially appreciated for their ability to develop a refined and lustrous patina over time.
