Di Cao Qing Zisha Clay

Di Cao Qing Zisha Clay is one of the most respected premium clay materials within Yixing Zisha craftsmanship. Originating from the Huanglong Mountain mining area of Yixing, Di Cao Qing is traditionally regarded as a refined category of Zi Ni (purple clay), valued for its balanced mineral composition, elegant color tone and excellent suitability for traditional teapot making.

After firing, Di Cao Qing typically displays a deep purple-brown or warm chestnut tone with a subtle sandy texture. Its clay structure provides both good plasticity for shaping and a refined surface quality, allowing artisans to create classic Yixing teapot forms with elegant proportions and lasting tactile appeal.

Historically favored by many skilled Yixing craftsmen, Di Cao Qing has become closely associated with high-quality Zisha teapots. Through years of use, vessels made from this clay gradually develop a warmer and more lustrous surface, reflecting the unique relationship between the artisan, the clay and the tea itself.
