Compressed Pu-erh Tea refers to Pu-erh shaped by pressing processed tea leaves into compact forms such as cakes, bricks and tuocha. Because Pu-erh is traditionally made from large-leaf tea, loose leaves can be bulky and difficult to transport. Historically, as tea traveled long distances from Yunnan to remote frontier regions, compression made the tea more compact, easier to pack and better suited to long-distance transport.

Today, compressed Pu-erh exists in both traditional and modern forms, from classic Pu-erh tea cakes, bricks and tuocha to mini tuocha, mini bricks and small tea pearls.
