Liu Huachun

Master Liu Huachun is a National-level Craft Artist and a Director of the China Zisha Culture Research Association. With over 40 years of dedication to the art of Yixing Zisha, she studied under the renowned Master Bao Yumei. Her work is a testament to the seamless fusion of traditional heritage and personal aesthetic language.
Artistic Philosophy: The Soul of the Teapot:
"A teapot is born from the hands, not just the mind."
In 2006, Yixing Zisha craftsmanship was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Its soul lies in the "slab-building" and "hand-pounding" techniques—a manual process unique in the world of ceramics. Through this rhythmic pounding, the clay reveals a relaxed, spontaneous beauty. The resulting vessels are porous and breathable, developing a lustrous patina over time that creates a deep, silent empathy between the pot and its owner.

The Solitude of the Bench:
For four decades, Master Liu has labored at her wooden bench. It is a path of solitude. Her hands, weathered by years of work, bear the marks of her devotion. "Every teapot demands total immersion," she reflects. "It requires a peaceful heart and an eye for harmony. The body must be full and tense, the spout and handle perfectly balanced, and the lid unified with the form."
Originality and Joy:
Master Liu believes that fine craft requires more than skill—it demands talent and an appreciation for life. By observing nature and studying the masters, she creates original pieces that carry her unique "linguistic symbol." The most profound joy comes at the moment the kiln opens, revealing the perfect hue and texture she envisioned.
A Lifelong Journey
"The craft has taught me the art of stillness," Liu says. As she immerses herself in literature, art, and the natural world, she weaves these "poetic distant lands" into her clay. For Master Liu, as long as she can hold the clay, she will continue to translate the beauty of the world into the vessels she creates.
